2013 Convention Keynote Speaker Announced
New York, New York - July 2013
Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity, Inc. has selected Bro. Manuel Gaetán-Rivera, PhD, to be the keynote speaker at the upcoming Phi Iota Alpha National Convention to be held in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Dr. Gaetán earned his bachelor's degree in Management Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, his Masters in Industrial Engineering from Cleveland State University, and his Ph.D. from Columbia Pacific University in Management Engineering. Dr. Gaetán became a brother of Phi Iota Alpha in 1955 at RPI. Bro. Gaetán, a former Captain in the US Army, is the President and Chief Executive Officer of MGR Enterprises, LLC, an international management-consulting firm based in Columbia, SC specializing in Strategic Planning and Marketing. He retired as President Emeritus of Bobbin Group of Miller Freeman, Inc. in September 1998. He started with Bobbin in 1970 and served in every aspect of Bobbin's organization. He was Publisher of both Bobbin and La Bobina magazines when he retired. Miller Freeman, Inc., a United News & Media Company, was then the largest trade show and publishing company in the world.
Bro. Gaetán, has been an Adjunct Professor for USC's College of Journalism as well as served on numerous boards including the fraternity's Board of Trustees. In his long and accomplished career, he has won several prestigious awards including the Lemkin Medal from the Textile Institute in Manchester, England. The Atrium Award for outstanding journalism. The coveted "Premio Internazionale Tecnica della Confezione,” regarded as the "Oscar” of the clothing industry for engineers. The award, given in Milan, Italy, was "for his significant contribution to the development of technical innovations in the clothing industry through both his exceptional engineering background and his skillful ability to promote his field.” He was the first American to receive such coveted honor for the industry.
