Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity, Inc. is proud to officially announce our fundraising campaign designed to reach out to the global community through the great efforts of UNICEF. Throughout the months of February through May our chapters, colonies and alumni throughout the nation will once again work together to raise funds through the UNICEF Tap Project.
The UNICEF Tap Project is a nationwide campaign that provides clean water and adequate sanitation to children around the world. With just $5, UNICEF can give one child safe drinking water for 200 days. Currently, UNICEF works in more than 100 countries around the world to improve access to safe water and sanitation facilities in schools and communities and to promote safe hygiene practices. Since 1990, thanks to the work of UNICEF and its partners, more than 2 billion people have gained access to clean drinking water.
This year not only are we collecting funds through the UNICEF Tap Project online fundraising page but we are also encouraging all our members to take the challenge and go without their phones to help give clean water to children in need by using the UNICEF Tap Project mobile experience — a new way to reflect on what it means to be without clean water by giving up access to something far less vital – our cell phones.
"Every year UNICEF Tap Project comes up with new and innovative ways to engage and educate the public about the world's water crisis, and that is one reason why we value this partnership." said, Francisco Lugo, Executive Director of Phi Iota Alpha.

UNICEF has saved more children's lives than any other humanitarian organization in the world. Working in more than 150 countries, UNICEF provides children with health care, clean water, nutrition, education, emergency relief, and more. The U.S. Fund for UNICEF supports UNICEF's work through fundraising, advocacy, and education in the United States.
UNICEF is at the forefront of efforts to reduce child mortality worldwide. There has been substantial progress: the annual number of under-five deaths dropped from 13 million in 1990 to 8.8 million in 2008. But still, 22,000 children die each day from preventable causes. Our mission is to do whatever it takes to make that number zero by giving children the essentials for a safe and healthy childhood. For more information, visit www.unicefusa.org.
