Phiotas Recognized during NALFO's Awards Dinner

Las Vegas, Nevada - May 17, 2014

 

The National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations recognized Bro. Juan Guardia, Bro, Klint Jaramillo, and Bro. Jose Rivera during their Awards Dinner on May 17 held in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Bro. Juan Guardia was awarded the Professional of the Year in recognition of established professionals or entrepreneurs who embody the standards of the Latino Greek Community through their professional accomplishments and community involvement. This is the fourth year in a row a brother of Phi Iota Alpha has won this award. Bro. Guardia is currently the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs at Northeastern Illinois University.

Bro. Klint Jaramillo was awarded the Rising Professional in recognition of aspiring professionals or entrepreneurs who embody the standards of the Latino Greek Community through their professional accomplishments and community involvement.  Bro. Jaramillo was also awarded the Chapter Advisor of the Year in recognition of a college/university professional or a NALFO member alumnus who supports the standards of the Latino Greek Community through their professional accomplishments as a NALFO fraternity/sorority chapter advisor. Bro. Jaramillio is currently the Associate Director of LGBT Services at University of California, Santa Barbara.

Bro. Jose Rivera was awarded the Undergraduate Excellence in recognition of an undergraduate member who has demonstrated excellence in the following categories: Academic Achievement, Leadership Excellence, Community Service, and Commitment to the Latino Greek Community. Bro. Rivera is a Senior Secondary Education major at Hofstra University.

NALFO award winners are selected by an independent committee of Greek advisors from prestigious universities throughout the country scored organizations on the basis of Academic Achievement, Community Service, Organizational Integrity and Commitment to the Latino Greek Community.

The National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations, Inc. (NALFO) was established in 1998 to promote the advancement of Latino/a fraternities and sororities. Today NALFO networks with 20 member Latino/a fraternities and sororities that are bound by a shared commitment to fraternal unity and the values that Latino/a fraternal life entails. The purpose of NALFO is to promote and foster positive interfraternal relations, communication, and development of all Latino/a Fraternal organizations through mutual respect, leadership, honesty, professionalism and education.

Since 1931, Phi Iota Alpha has set precedents for Latino Greek leadership in the global community. For over 82 years, Phi Iota Alpha has cultivated and inspired Latino men nationwide to become leaders of their communities across Latin America and the United States. Open to all men, this distinguished brotherhood includes many professionals and former presidents of Latin American countries. Today Phi Iota Alpha, the Oldest Latino Fraternity in existence, continues to lead as the preeminent Latino fraternal organization with chapters throughout the United States.
