Highlights from the 82nd National Convention 

San Diego, California – July 2014

This past weekend Phi Iota Alpha celebrated their 82nd National Convention in San Diego, California.

This year the DoubleTree San Diego Downtown hosted Brothers and their guests from all across the United States. The annual convention provided an opportunity for undergraduates and alumni from various induction classes and states across the nation to connect or reconnect with the organization

On Saturday the awards banquet was held to honor the achievements of alumni, undergraduate, chapters, and colonies. This year’s our guest speaker was Ernesto Nieto, founder and president of the National Hispanic Institute (NHI).

We would like to once again congratulate all of this year’s award recipients:

  • Undergraduate of the year: Marco Camarillo, Alpha Omega Chapter 
  • Alumni of the Year: Klint Jaramillo, Chi Chapter
  • Management Team Member of the Year: Maurico Amaya – Alumni Affairs Manager 
  • Philanthropic Excellence Chapter of the Year: Eta Chapter 
  • Chapter of the Year: Beta Lambda Chapter

In addition 8 colonies were chartered as new chapters of Phi Iota Alpha:

  • Beta Epsilon Chapter: Texas A&M University
  • Beta Zeta Chapter: Denison University
  • Beta Eta Chapter: Grand Valley State University
  • Beta Theta Chapter: University of California, San Diego
  • Beta Iota Chapter: University of South Carolina
  • Beta Kappa Chapter: Georgetown University
  • Beta Lambda Chapter: University of Texas, Pan-American
  • Beta Mu Chapter: Texas Tech University


Since 1931, Phi Iota Alpha has set precedents for Latino Greek leadership in the global community. For over 82 years, Phi Iota Alpha has cultivated and inspired Latino men nationwide to become leaders of their communities across Latin America and the United States. Open to all men, this distinguished brotherhood includes many professionals and former presidents of Latin American countries. Today Phi Iota Alpha, the Oldest Latino Fraternity in existence, continues to lead as the preeminent Latino fraternal organization with chapters throughout the United States.
