New York, New York - April 2016

In response to last Saturday's massive earthquake, which reached 7.8 on the Richter scale in Ecuador, Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity, Inc. will be joining the U.S. Fund for UNICEF in raising funds to help children impacted by the recent events.

The unprecedented nature of the epic disaster and its humane impact on children, global relief efforts are going to be critical to recovery efforts in that region. Recovery efforts may include addressing threats posed to healthcare, development, homelessness and other humane needs that are present in the wake of this catastrophe.

The official death toll is at 413 and it is estimated that more than 2,500 people have been injured as of April 18 according to authorities. These numbers are expected to rise as rescuers continue their hard work and efforts.

Phi Iota Alpha has committed itself to donating $1,000.00 and is asking their members and encouraging other Greek lettered organizations to join in their efforts of raising funds to help children impacted by the recent events by making a donation through the U.S. Fund for UNICEF.

UNICEF is the world's leading organization for children and has extensive experience in addressing the unique needs of children who have survived trauma related to natural and man-made crisis.

UNICEF has saved more children's lives than any other humanitarian organization in the world. Working in more than 150 countries, UNICEF provides children with health care, clean water, nutrition, education, emergency relief, and more. The U.S. Fund for UNICEF supports UNICEF's work through fundraising, advocacy, and education in the United States.UNICEF is at the forefront of efforts to reduce child mortality worldwide. There has been substantial progress: the annual number of under-five deaths dropped from 13 million in 1990 to 8.8 million in 2008. But still, 22,000 children die each day from preventable causes. Our mission is to do whatever it takes to make that number zero by giving children the essentials for a safe and healthy childhood. For more information, visit
