Phi Iota Alpha Recognized at NALFO's Fall Business Meeting
New York, New York - December 2016
Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity, along with individual members and undergraduate chapters were recognized during the fall business meeting of the National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations (NALFO) that was held this past weekend in Boston, Massachusetts.
Bro. Juan Cantu from the Beta Lambda Chapter was awarded the Undergraduate Excellence Award in recognition of his demonstrated excellence in the following categories: Academic Achievement, Leadership Excellence, Community Service, and commitment to the Latino Greek Community. Bro. Cantu is currently a student at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
The Sigma Chapter was awarded the Philanthropic Excellence Award - Undergraduate Chapter in recognition of an undergraduate chapter who has demonstrated excellence in philanthropic and community service work for the Latino Community.
The fraternity was also awarded with the National Philanthropic Organization of the Year Award for its continued work with UNICEF USA. As of today, Phi Iota Alpha has raised more than $60,000+ for UNICEF USA since the partnership’s inception in 2010.
Lastly, Phi Iota Alpha was once again awarded the Organization of the Year Award for demonstrating continued excellence in promoting academic achievement within the organization, promotion of community service and philanthropic endeavors, maintaining the highest integrity among their undergraduate members, chapters and alumni, and their commitment to the Latino Greek community.
Since 2011, Phi Iota Alpha has won the National Philanthropic Organization of the Year and Organization of the Year Awards four times.
The National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations, Inc. (NALFO) was established in 1998 to promote the advancement of Latino fraternities and sororities. Today NALFO networks with 16 member Latino fraternities and sororities that are bound by a shared commitment to fraternal unity and the values that Latino fraternal life entails. The purpose of NALFO is to promote and foster positive interfraternal relations, communication, and development of all Latino Fraternal organizations through mutual respect, leadership, honesty, professionalism and education.
