Members of Phi Iota Alpha believe that the Latin American community in the United States and in Latin American countries are in need of new sources of intellectual capital to identify, address and solve the difficult challenges they face. Therefore, the organization is dedicated to developing in its members an awareness of the common values and traditions of the nations of Latin America and to preparing them to become active participants in the process of advancing the social and economic conditions of all Latin Americans.

The fraternity instills in its members a global Latino perspective. This is an orientation that transcends the existing national boundaries that have separated Latin America. It builds on the spirit and traditions of Pan-Americanism and supports and promotes actions leading to an eventual unification of all the countries of Latin America.

Networking Opportunities

Brothers of Phi Iota Alpha come from a wide range of professional careers such as Finance, Real Estate, Software Engineering, Education, Medical, Media, and so on. Brothers work at fortune 500 companies such as Amazon and Google. Or brothers have gone and created their own successful companies such as Sabio and Jesse O. Visuals. There is a limitless number of opportunities to network and meet other Latino men in your industry. Brothers are located throughout the country and in international locations. Phi Iota Alpha places a heavy emphasis on the famous quote, “It’s not what you know, but who you know.”

Life-long relationships

While you’re not paying for friends, that doesn’t mean you don’t have deep friendships. It’s one thing to be friends with a few guys in your dorm; it’s completely different to develop accountability-driven relationships with men who have gone through the same process and rituals as you. It’s also different to work with a large group who share the same goals for an organization. The relationships developed in Phi Iota Alpha will go beyond anything found in dorm life.

Philanthropic Opportunities

Despite how Greek life is often depicted in the media, at its core is a dedication to philanthropy. While fraternities and sororities all have unique traditions and characteristics, all are united by their participation in philanthropic events. Chapters of our fraternity all over the United States individually generate tens, and sometimes even hundreds of thousands, of dollars for charity every year through philanthropic events they organize. These kinds of philanthropic events might include anything from charitable runs to large-scale galas. Learn more about our philanthropic efforts here.

Professional Development

Phi Iota Alpha provide the opportunity to understand what it’s like to run a company. A fraternity is made up of different boards: administrative and executive. Each board is filled with positions (e.g., academic affairs chairman, director of communications, or president). Each position is assigned a committee made up of other members who then meet weekly to discuss business. The entire organization meets at the end of the week to discuss all relevant business for the upcoming week. Organization, efficiency, and communication skills are necessary in any business environment, and you can develop these skills in Phi Iota Alpha.

“Joining Phi Iota Alpha has been one of the best decisions I made from a personal and professional standpoint. As a man coming from a family of all women, I can easily say I have created relationships with brothers that go beyond the fraternity. I have also made use of the vast networking to connect with brothers in similar professional fields and gain insight I otherwise would have not had access to. The benefits of joining are endless if taken advantage of properly.”

Richard Colachagua - Alpha Gamma Chapter Spr 18

“I was looking to expand my professional network after college and found Phi Iota Alpha during the second semester of my sophomore year. After joining, I met alumni in my technology field and they provided me with mentorship opportunities that landed me a job out of college. I am grateful for joining because of the professional development and networking opportunities.”

Rafael Martinez - Sigma Chapter Spr 13

“I joined Phi Iota Alpha because I was looking for a Greek organization on campus. Phi A felt the most at home, and I resonated with all the values the fraternity held.”

Abel Nunez - Pi Chapter Fall 16

“When I came to USC, I was impatient. But I learned that leadership is working with people, not how to boss them around. True leadership is motivating and inspiring. True leadership is leading by example. Phi Iota Alpha taught me that.”
