Civic Engagement

Our fraternity has initiated and implemented various programs that reflect our deep-rooted commitment to uplifting those around us. These initiatives, characterized by their creativity, have addressed pertinent community challenges, making a tangible difference in our communities. 

Nuestra America Initiative

For Spring 2024 Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity, Inc and the 1931 Foundation are collaborating once again on the “Nuestra America Initiative”. Based on the missions, ideals, and visions of the organizations, 6 non-profits with 501c3 status will be selected from recommendations from brothers across the fraternity. These organizations align with the missions and visions of both Phi Iota Alpha and The 1931 Foundation. The following organizations are:

  1. Northeast Province – Latino Urbanos Book Club 

  2. Southeast Province - Solidarity Sandy Springs Food Pantry

  3. Southwest Province – Hispanic Development Fund 

  4. Midwest Province – Feed My Starving Children 

  5. Western Province – A Place Called Home 

  6. National – The 1931 Foundation 

National Philanthropy: National Hispanic Institute (NHI) & Nuestra America Initiative

Phi Iota Alpha, Inc. has successfully fundraised over $45,000 for our partners across the nation, including the National Hispanic Institute, G.O.A.L. in Denton, Texas, Second Harvest in Tennessee, Border Angels in California, Centerville Immigration Forum in NYC and various other non-profits over the last 3 years. This financial contribution showcases our commitment to supporting organizations that align with our values and mission. It also showcases our adaptability and ability to consistently fundraise for different organizations in different regions. We are projected to fundraise towards our national partner, the National Hispanic Institute. These funds will be used to provide high school students with leadership development scholarships through NHI programs. 

Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity, Inc. is dedicated to the empowerment our community by providing social/cultural programming, activities, philanthropy, community service, integrity, and unwavering dedication. Our fraternity's endeavors resonate with the spirit and objectives of Pan-Americanism, Brotherhood, Professionalism.

  • Pan-American Day of Service

    Embodying the spirit of solidarity and Pan-Americanism, our Pan-American Day of Service facilitates participation from all our chapters in the country. This large-scale event is aligned with our central ideals of Pan-Americanism through our civic engagement. It epitomizes our commitment to community service, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose among our members.

  • Participation in NALFO Philanthropic Events

    Phi Iota Alpha, Inc. takes immense pride in having the highest chapter participation for NALFO DOS. Our active involvement in NALFO's philanthropic events underscores our commitment to broader community service initiatives and our dedication to the values espoused by NALFO.

  • Nuestra America Initiative

    Each of our chapters is actively encouraged to volunteer with local partners. Through consistent outreach and relationship-building, our chapters have cultivated strong ties with community organizations, amplifying our impact at the grassroots level. 

  • Cultivo Seminar & Interview Series

    Watch our interview series with our partners, where they share their stories, missions, and the challenges they face. This initiative not only strengthens our partnerships but also educates our members and the broader community. Through these campaigns, we aim to educate the public and raise awareness about pressing issues.

Alpha Gamma Chapter of Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity, Inc. on NBC's "Visiones" with Lynda Baquero

The Alpha Gamma Chapter of Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity, Inc. appeared on NBC 4 New York's "Visiones" with Lynda Baquero on 2/8/2020 to discuss the results from last year's fundraiser for the Jorge Guevara Mellado Project. $3,377 was raised for the Jorge Guevara Mellado School to create community service competitions, 8 student scholarships, and the Jose de San Martin Computer Lab, complete with a computer teacher and laptops so the kids can learn computer skills!
